2026 Summer Build Your Own Adventure

Morrill Public Library has a new program series for Summer 2026! Join Director Erin Verbick on Thursdays at 11 am in June to help write the library’s next StoryWalk® book.

“Build Your Own Adventure” is a Pre-K through 2nd grade literacy program hosted at the library. Learners entering these grades will help create a collaborative storybook inspired by the works of local author Bill Martin, Jr. Kids will help write the story, draw the illustrations, and come up with dialogic questions. Each child will also get their own bound copy of the finished book. This program is a great opportunity for kids to keep practicing their reading, writing, and creative thinking skills over summer break!

Later in July, the library will get the finished story professionally printed and display the posters at local businesses’ storefronts for a community StoryWalk®. Anyone in town can walk around and follow the story! Those who complete the StoryWalk® book the week of July 20th can visit the library to receive a small prize.

This program is made possible by a Washburn University grant program, “The Science of Reading for Librarians.” The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vermont. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
